The WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate Program supports residential customers to improve the water efficiency as well as energy efficiency of their homes, to save water and energy and reduce bills by replacing an existing inefficient top loading washing machine with a new water and energy efficient front loading washing machine.
The WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate Program is open from 1 March 2025 to 30 June 2025, subject to demand.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for a WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate, you must:
- be a Barwon Water customer that lives in a property within Barwon Water’s service region that is charged a residential water charge (owner or tenant)
- have purchased and installed a new eligible washing machine at the property that corresponds with your Barwon Water account number on or after 1 March 2025 and prior to applying for the rebate (proof of purchase is required)
- have recycled your old top loading washing machine e.g collected by the retailer, Local Government hard waste whitegood collection or commercial recyclers collection (proof of collection is required)
Eligible products
Any new front loading washing machine with a minimum 4.5-star WELS and 4-star energy rating or better.
Rebate amount
- A rebate of $200 is available to eligible residential customers that replace their top loading washing machine with a new eligible front loading washing machine with a purchase price of over $700; or
- A rebate of $100 is available to eligible residential customers that replace their top loading washing machine with a new eligible washing front loading machine with a purchase price of under $700.
The washing machine purchased must be for the replacement of an existing top loading washing machine and the old top loading washing machine must be traded in or collected for recycling. All applicants must provide details of the old washing machine including the make and model in their application.
All successful applicants will be advised in writing and payment of the WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate will be within 60 days of the application being approved.
Making a claim
To claim a WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate, an online application form must be completed and accompanied by relevant supporting documents including:
- Original receipt showing proof of purchase and payment (including a clear description of the washing machine make and model).
- Proof that the old top loading washing machine has been collected for recycling.
- By receiving a rebate, you agree to the Terms and Conditions (PDF 138.2 KB) and acknowledge that you will not be entitled to any further rebates under the WaterSmart Washing Machine Rebate Program.
