Upgrading the Forrest water treatment plant

28 Sep 2022

Barwon Water will this month begin construction to upgrade the Forrest Water Treatment Plant.

The $8.75-million project is a core promise from our 2018-2023 Prices Submission and will ensure we can continue to provide high quality, affordable and secure services for Forrest customers and community.

Barwon Water Managing Director Tracey Slatter said the Forrest water treatment plant on Grant Street was being upgraded as it was reaching the end of its operational life.

“The upgrade will ensure the Forrest water treatment plant has the latest technology and capacity to maintain ongoing water quality and security, meet rising demand and maintain customer affordability.

“Our analysis has shown the best approach to managing the town’s supply from a water quality, cost and security perspective is to undertake the upgrade now.”

As part of the upgrade the existing infrastructure would be decommissioned and replaced with a new, high quality facility to service the town.

Works will begin later this month and will take approximately one year to complete.

There are no planned interruptions to the local water service as part of the works, the majority of which will take place within the water treatment plant site on Grant Street. Construction activities will occur weekdays between 7 am and 5 pm and, if required, Saturday 7 am to 1 pm.

We ask community members to be mindful of construction vehicles entering and exiting the property and thank the Forrest community for their understanding and patience while the essential works were undertaken.
